O That it Were Mere Distance

O that it were mere distance between us,
Mountains and valleys all rocky with snow,
I would climb and not tire, ignoring the cold,
Knowing I'd reach you, fearless I'd go,
O that it were mere distance between us.

O that it were mere distance between us,
A desert vast with scalding hot sand,
I would fight the heat and thirst and pain,
Knowing in the end I'd grasp your hand,
O that it were mere distance between us.

O that is were mere distance between us,
An ocean deep and great and wide,
I would swim the dark and dangerous sea,
Knowing I'd meet you on the other side,
O that it were mere distance between us.

But the distance between us,
Is much greater than,
Mountain or ocean,
Or dry desert land.

It is unspoken pain,
And unrighted wrongs,
Shouting and tears,
And heartbroken songs.

Yes the distance between us,
Cannot be breached,
Unless the one distant,
Wants to be reached.

I would climb,
I'd swim or crawl,
Yes my dear one,
You'd be worth it all.

O that it were mere distance between us.
